EMERGENCY PLUMBING
The First Thing to Do in a Plumbing Emergency
If water is actively flooding a space in your home, the first action is always to shut off the water supply. For a burst pipe or failed appliance, find the nearest shutoff — either the fixture supply valve (the valve behind the toilet or under the sink) or the main shutoff where the water service enters the home. In most Northwest Indiana homes, the main shutoff is in the basement near the front foundation wall. Shutting it off stops the flooding immediately and limits damage while you call for emergency service.
Plumbing emergencies we respond to include: burst pipes (common in Northwest Indiana winters), water heater failures causing flooding, sewer line backups overflowing drains or toilets, sudden loss of water pressure throughout the home, and major drain clogs causing sewage overflow. We also respond to gas line concerns that affect plumbing fixtures and appliances — in cases of a suspected gas leak, evacuate the home and call the gas company first, then us.
