SEWER LINE CLEANING
Clean Sewers Run Better — and Last Longer
Most homeowners never think about their sewer line until something backs up.
But your sewer line is accumulating material every day — grease from the kitchen,
soap from the shower, root tendrils from nearby trees, and general debris. Over
time, this buildup restricts flow, creates conditions for full blockages, and
in the case of root intrusion, can lead to damage that requires costly repair.
Sewer line cleaning removes that accumulated material before it causes a problem.
For homes with older clay tile sewer lines — common in Merrillville, Crown Point,
Hammond, and other Northwest Indiana communities built before 1980 — annual or
biannual cleaning is especially important. Clay tile joints are particularly
vulnerable to root intrusion, and regular cleaning keeps root growth at bay
and gives early warning of developing joint issues.
Downing Plumbing provides both preventive sewer cleaning programs and one-time
cleaning services. We use electric sewer rodding machines for standard cleaning
and hydro jetting for more thorough pipe wall cleaning. We can also perform a
camera inspection to assess pipe condition and document what we found.
