SEWER RODDING SERVICE
The Proven Method for Main Line Clearing
Sewer rodding — also called electric sewer cleaning or augering — uses a rotating
steel cable with a cutting or clearing head to break through obstructions in your
main sewer line. The cable is fed through the cleanout and driven by a powerful
electric motor that rotates it through the line, cutting or dislodging whatever
is blocking the pipe.
Sewer rodding is effective against most common main line blockages: soft root
intrusion, grease accumulation, and general debris. Different cutting heads are
used depending on the blockage type — a root cutter for tree root intrusion,
a retrieval auger for objects, and a standard spiral head for general clearing.
In Northwest Indiana, where silver maple and oak roots are a frequent cause of
main sewer problems, sewer rodding is often the first step — followed by hydro
jetting or camera inspection if needed.
Rodding is typically faster than hydro jetting and is the right first response
for most main line backups. When rodding alone isn't sufficient — for example,
when there's heavy root mass or significant grease buildup on pipe walls — we
can follow up with hydro jetting for a more thorough cleaning result.
