SHOWER VALVE REPAIR
Shower Problems Are Valve Problems
The shower valve is the mechanical heart of your shower — it controls both flow and temperature mixing. Most modern showers use a pressure-balance valve (single-handle, anti-scald) or a thermostatic valve (temperature control separate from volume control). Inside every shower valve is a cartridge that wears over time, leading to drips from the shower head when off, temperature that won't reach hot enough, handles that are hard to turn, or leaks behind the wall.
A dripping shower head when the valve is off is almost always a worn cartridge — the internal seals no longer hold pressure when the handle is closed. Temperature problems — where the shower won't get as hot as it used to, or suddenly runs cold — indicate a cartridge that's worn or a pressure-balance unit that needs servicing. Leaks behind the wall are more serious: water is bypassing the valve body seals and running into the wall cavity, which can cause structural damage and mold over time.
Downing Plumbing replaces shower cartridges and repairs shower valves for all major brands including Moen, Delta, Kohler, American Standard, and Price Pfister. We carry common cartridges on the truck — most shower valve repairs are same-day.
