WATER HEATER LEAKING
Where the Leak Is Coming From Determines Everything
Not every water heater leak means you need a new unit. The source of the leak tells us whether repair is viable. A leaking pressure relief valve, loose supply line connection, or faulty drain valve can often be repaired quickly and inexpensively. A leak from the tank body itself — usually a sign of internal corrosion — generally means the unit needs replacement, since a corroded tank cannot be repaired reliably.
If you notice puddles around the base of your water heater, water staining on the floor, or the drip pipe from the pressure relief valve running water, call Downing Plumbing. We'll pinpoint the exact source of the leak and tell you honestly whether a repair will solve the problem or whether replacement is the better answer. We won't sell you a new unit if a $50 valve repair will do the job.
A leaking water heater should be addressed promptly — water left on a utility room floor can damage the subfloor, create a mold environment, or in a finished basement, cause significant property damage. Don't wait to see if it gets better on its own.
